BUG MUSIC VIDEOS
I approached BUG Music Videos with the idea for an iPhone app to showcase their innovative show, hosted by Adam Buxton. Working together with Neil McLean of Ayelike Ltd, we developed the app for their 5th Birthday - with a bespoke playlist, detailing 1 video from each of their 30 shows.
The app can be downloaded on iTunes and Google Play.
FROM APP ICON TO THE REAL WORLD
I was asked by Louise Stevens (from BUG) whether they could use my app icon for some promotional material for the "Best of BUG" show, which ended up being turned into a rubber stamp used at the live shows! It was a wonderfully surreal feeling going to one of the shows and seeing a whole crowd of people, stamped with my design on the back of their hands.
HOW THE PROJECT STARTED
We have both been big fans of Adam Buxton for years, so when BUG played its first show in Manchester we quickly bought tickets and made sure we ended up on the front row. Designing and building a mobile app seemed like the perfect platform for allowing people to get involved with BUG regardless of their location, as the shows were predominately in London.
When I learnt of the show returning to Manchester, I designed a poster based on the lyrics from one of Adam's songs from the 'Song Wars' feature on his BBC podcast with Joe Cornish. I left it on his desk after the show with a note saying we had a plan for the app. He contacted me the next day via Twitter and directed me to contact Louise, and we set up a meeting in London with a full walkthrough of the app.
It was a great opportunity that we created for ourselves.
