Martin Parr exhibition

Neil Richards

Last month I entered some photographs into the ‘My Switzerland' competition at the Museum für Gestaltung, in Zürich - alongside the Martin Parr exhibition 'Souvenir’. All the entries (nearly 200 from over 16 countries) were exhibited in the museum, so I decided to hop on a plane with my wife, and go and see the show. It’s not every day that you get to share an exhibition space with one of your photographic idols.

The Indisposable Concept

Neil Richards

I recently took part in the Indisposable Concept project, to capture my world in 24 photographs using only a disposable camera. I chose to combine it with my love of thrifting and bought the camera for 50p from my favourite car boot sale. It was a great project to get involved in, it was really freeing to not have to worry about exposure, aperture and other technical issues - and just point and shoot at the things that encapsulate my life. One of the only rules, it that one of the photographs has to be a self portrait - hence my hairy face! If you’d like to get involved, then visit the site and download the instruction pack, if you’d like to see my photographs click here.

Burton

Neil Richards

I was looking back through some old photographs and I spotted two that were linked together. The bottom photograph was taken in Llandudno and the photograph at the top was taken in Chester. The one from Chester has been removed from the building, but you can still clearly see that it read ‘Burton’. The full sign reads ‘Montague Burton Tailor of Taste’, which is the origins of todays ‘Burton’ clothing shops. Sir Montague Burton is thought to have coined the phrase ‘The Full Monty’.
