A few years ago, my wife and I visited the Hawaiian Islands - which are unlike anywhere else I have been. We stayed on Maui for a few days, and took a coastal drive around the island, stopping off in rain forests, waterfalls, up above the cloud-line on the extinct volcano and down to the lava beaches. As the island is so far away from mainland USA, it has it’s own micro-environment, with very specific wildlife. One of the areas we stopped off at, had mongoose - which were introduced to the island in 1883 to try and control the rodent population in the sugar cane fields.
